Note: The FJ's have never been designed to run on Radials tyres. The slim, 3" rims are designed for Crossply's. Yamaha has never tested them on the bike nor has any tyre manufacturer that happens to list a Radial option.  Crossplys have always been recommended by the club to fit all FJ models. Unfortunately most manufacturers are ceasing production of cossplys suitable for FJ's. Availability is limited because of this. Eventually owners will only be able to get radial tyres for them.
 
Update; After consultation with our tyre importer I have available fitments for FJ1200 in crossply from Bridgestone. The tyres are BT 46 S available in 120/70 H 17 and 150/80 V 16 sizes. Please note the  17 inch front tyre is available ONLY in a 'H' speed rating (continuous 130MPH). This I am assured by the importer is quite legal, if not recommended (Should be V rated continuous 150mph), but it does allow owners to still have the recommended crossply type tyre fitment.

These are the Best Value tyres on the market for the FJ.
They are Crossply tyres designed to fit on the FJ crossply rims.
These are British manufactured.
 
Ensure when ordering for the FJ1100 and FJ1200 1TX 86-87 models (that have 16" front wheels) you order Avon 120/80V16 front crossply tyre.
 
Metzeler Laser-Tec Tyres
Metzeler tyres are without doubt the best tyres to fit to the FJ range. The front design is a copy of the old ME33 from the mid 1980's but now comes with the lastest sticky compounds.
The design is very similar to a racing 'Wet' tyre so is an excellent tyre in the wet conditions. Mileage is also very good ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 miles. This tyre can be matched to any rear tyre due to its 'Front' only design.  Thes are being discontinued.
